Will Jeffrey Earnhardt Keep The Family Name Streak Alive In The Daytona 500?

An Earnhardt has been in the Daytona 500 every year since 1979, will that streak extend to 41 years in 2019?

While nothing has been announced yet it does appear Jeffrey Earnhardt will continue the family’s legacy in the NASCAR Cup Series. Dale’s grandson recorded a video for Xtreme Concepts in which he is wearing a firesuit with the MENCS logo patch on it.

Last season Jeffrey ran the Daytona 500 with StarCom Racing to continue the family’s streak. There are a couple of possibilities for him in 2019.

The first being with Xtreme Concepts Racing whose logo appears in the video. Xtreme teamed up with Gaunt Brothers Racing last season and could go it on their own this season. If they do decide to field a car on their own there is speculation it could be a Joe Gibbs Racing supplied car. This hero card appeared on Jeffrey’s Instagram story for a hot minute. Gibbs has run the #81 in the past for part-time drivers. Xtreme could run it with a car prepared by JGR. You know, since cup teams can’t field more than 4 cars.

Essentially they would be doing what Stewart-Haas Racing did with Rick Ware Racing last season. Cole Custer raced for RWR but in a car supplied and prepped by SHR. And if Jeffrey can finesse his way into a JGR Cup car we all have to question if we’re trying hard enough in life.

The other possibility for Jeffrey would be a second Leavine Family Racing car. That however seems unlikely considering it will be the first race for the team with Toyota. Daytona has a high probability of scrapping cars and losing two cars right after a manufacturer switch is less than idea.

If you’re into betting put money on Earnhardt being in the 500. Can’t let that family name streak die yet.
