Daniel Riccardo Puts On A Clinic In China! Formula 1 Off To A Hot Start (Highlights)

Formula 1 couldn’t ask for a better start to the season than what 2018 has handed them. Three straight exciting races have the sport primed for their best year in nearly a decade.
Sunday in China saw Red Bull and Daniel Ricciardo break through for their first win of the season, ending Ferrari’s reign at the top step of the podium. Riccardo put on an absolute clinic in the second half of Sunday’s race. Picking off the sports best as he stormed to victory. Some people say he steals wins, he comes from nowhere to win and Sunday was again one of those days.

Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen was once again at the center of controversy. A week removed from Lewis Hamilton calling Max a “dickhead” he struck again, this time into Sebastian Vettel. As the Ferrari possibly locked up into the hairpin, Verstappen attempted to jump to the inside. Max said Vettel turned in on him, the evidence is pretty clear, however. Max overshot the corner. That collision earned him a 10-second penalty post-race as well.

Verstappen also had a failed pass attempt on Lewis Hamilton. Speaking of Hamilton, talk about a guy that seems absolutely lost to start the season. Verstappen though attempted to pass the reigning World Champ and failed. His failure ultimately set up the Vettel collision and a shot at the win.

The senior Red Bull team wasn’t the only Red Bull team that got into incidents on Sunday. Toro Rosso’s Brendon Hartley and Pierre Gasly collided down in the hairpin. Debris from that collision would bring out the safety car and allow the Red Bull team to double stack their pit stops, thus putting them in a prime position later in the race. Vettel would say after the race the safety car came out at the wrong time as if the FIA should ensure safety cars only come out at advantageous times for everyone.

Ricciardo meanwhile took advantage of that safety car and proceeded to put on a clinic as he marched through the leaders. He overtook Hamilton from a mile back going into the hairpin. After the race, he said “sometimes you just have to lick a stamp and send it”, hell of an analogy.

Ricciardo then set his sights on the other Mercedes as he threaded the needle on Valtteri Bottas for the lead. Ricciardo made the move in a corner you wouldn’t normally pass in but don’t tell him that. He took the lead and cruised to victory after that. Ricciardo pulls himself back into the championship race after a disastrous Bahrain GP.
