Jeffrey Earnhardt entered the 2019 season with a partial Xfinity schedule with Joe Gibbs Racing as well as a number of races for the newly formed Xtreme Concepts Racing. The new team formed an alliance with JGR and in addition to their Xfinity program it was announced they would also field a Cup car in select races for Earnhardt as well.
Flash forward to Wednesday (July 3rd) and Earnhardt announced he will not be racing at Daytona Friday night in the #81 Xfinity car for XCR. He added he’s looking forward to getting back in the car soon.
iK9 was slated to be the sponsor on the cars for those races. The company enjoyed early season success as Kyle Busch took them to victory lane multiple times. However the company hasn’t been on the car since June 1st at Pocono. Earnhardt’s next start in the #18 isn’t scheduled to happen until August 10th at Mid-Ohio. However, the company said they would be sponsoring the #18 in 24 races this season.
So far this season iK9/1st Foundation has been on a JGR Xfinity car in 13 races of 15 races. The interesting part of this is the 1st Foundation arm of the iK9 brand. The website for the foundation currently doesn’t exist. The link on the iK9 site leads to nothing. Yet they’re sponsoring race cars with seemingly nowhere for people to donate or learn about the cause. 1st Foundation was on Brandon Jones’ car as recently as June 16th at Iowa.
Yet here we are on July 3rd and JGR has removed iK9 from their partners page at JoeGibbs.com.
The wayback machine didn’t have a screenshot of the partners page from earlier in the year. However a sponsor that is going to be the primary in 24 races would be on the partners page. Yet iK9 is curiously missing from this.
iK9 came into the sport HOT. Sponsoring races, cars with one of the sports biggest teams, attaching themselves to Hailie Deegan. They’re doing it all. Do you know who else came into the sport with a bang like that? DC Solar, and that ended in an FBI raid. We’re not saying iK9 will meet the same fate however the paths are eerily similar.
