By now everyone knows Johnny Sauter was suspended by NASCAR for Saturday Night’s Truck Series race at Gateway. That was an inevitable outcome after wrecking Austin Hill under caution at Iowa. You can debate the Sauter penalty until he comes back, we’re not going to do that. What we are going to do is speculate wildly about who will drive the #13 Thorsport Ford F-150.
Here’s the thing, the pool of drivers Thorsport can pick from is really small. Since Gateway is part of the “Triple Truck Challenge” only drivers receiving points in the Truck Series can compete. Meaning no Xfinity or Cup drivers so throw Cole Custer and Chase Briscoe out the window. So who is left?
The most successful iRacer had a tumultuous part-time career Roush Fenway Racing which abruptly came to an end last season after RFR shuttered their Xfinity program. However, he has won 2 of the last 3 ARCA races for Cunningham Motorsports and damn near won the third. He’s hot right now, giving him a shot in good equipment isn’t the worst idea you’ve ever heard.
The Biff just won his first truck start since 2004 two weeks ago in Texas. He tweeted last night asking if he was eligible for the Triple Truck Challenge this week. Biffle does have a long history with Ford too.
This is the safest and most boring option out there for ThorSport. Peters is a really good truck racer, he’ll bring it home in one piece and could compete for a win. But there’s nothing sexy about this selection, sorry Mrs. Peters.
Marty’s kid is racing full-time in the NASCAR Euro series but they’re off until next weekend when they had to former Czechoslovakia. Snider could be in play here, he has a history with ThorSport and raced with them at the beginning of the season. Imagine one weekend in East St. Louis followed up with a flight to the Czech Republic. Unreal culture change.
