Andretti Autosport Appears Set To Announce Conor Daly For The Indy 500

Andretti Autosport has scheduled an announcement for Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. In the media advisory the team says they will announce a driver and sponsor for the Indianapolis 500.

So who is it?

It appears to be that good lad Conor Daly. A year after struggling to make the 500 with Dale Coyne Racing/Thom Burns Racing the 27-year old appears to be teaming up with Andretti Autosport. You know, the team that has won 2 of the last 3 Indy 500’s.

Daly had an interesting 2018 season. Without a full time ride for the season he originally only had a one off for the 500 scheduled. Weirdly as much as Daly struggled to find speed early in May his finish in the 500 turned out to be the best of his career in 21st. Later in the season he did three races for Harding Racing. He made a NASCAR Xfinity Series start and did some dirt midget racing.

One thing we know for certain is his sponsor for the 500 will not be Lilly Diabetes. The Indianapolis based company was supposed to sponsor Daly, a diabetic, for the Xfinity race at Road America. The company pulled their sponsorship Saturday night following the release of something Daly’s father, Derek said 30 years ago before Conor was even alive.

Daly will be joining his good friend and Amazing Race teammate Alexander Rossi for the 500. Not that it means anything but you know people will bring it up and Jenna Fryer will likely pen an AP piece on it.

If Daly does join Andretti it this will be the first May he is in an ultra competitive car. It’ll be interesting to see how Daly does. Tune into the press confernece tomorrow, listen to Marshall Pruett’s podcast where Daly is a guess and thank Robin Miller for tipping everyone off.
