It Appears Zane Smith Has Signed With JR Motorsports For 2019

Zane Smith won 4 ARCA races in 2018 and had a runner-up finish in the championship. It appears he has finalized his plans for 2018 and it’s not the #16 truck.

Friday afternoon Zane put out a tweet/Instagram post that he has some really exciting news and that he signed “the biggest contract of his life.” It was very vague, the picture he put up on Instagram was very nondescript.

I signed the biggest contract of my life so far this morning. Announcement coming soon for our 2019 racing plans. Any guesses ?

However, an internet forensic scientist, also known as 90% of Redditors did some digging. User u/ZacharyHill23 posted this to the r/ARCA subreddit.

He cross-referenced it with a picture from the JR Motorsports conference room and sure enough, it’s the same place. So unless JRM is leasing out their conference room for other teams like a WeWork office it appears Zane will be at JRM in 2019.

Obviously, we don’t know if it’s for a full season or a partial season or even what car he will be in. What we do know is they have an open car after Tyler Reddick decided to move to RCR for the 2019 Xfinity season. Noah Gragson has signed with JRM for 2019 and will drive the #1 car so Smith in the #9 appears to be the place for him.

Smith brings sponsorship along with him. Last season in ARCA he had La Paz Margarita Mix and Icon Vehicle Dynamics on his car for 19 of 20 races. Not sure if they could make the move up to Xfinity but they did sponsor him in a truck series start last season.

Smith has zero Xfinity starts and only one Truck Series start. In that truck start, however, he finished 5th in an up and down race that saw him rebound from a poor performance early in the race. The move to Xfinity is a huge learning curve over ARCA but Zane has proven to have the consistency to run strong all season.

He just can’t have a Salem incident again.
