Stewart-Haas Racing remains in negotiations with Daniel Suarez for the #41 Ford Mustang in 2019.
Suarez is expected to be replaced by Martin Truex Jr. in the #19 car next season making him a free agent. Suarez not only brings talent to his next team but also the back of one of the richest men in the world, Carlos Slim.
According to Adam “Woj” Stern Suarez is still in talks with Stewart-Haas Racing for 2019.

During the Las Vegas weekend, Gene Haas spoke about the possibility of adding Suarez to his team in 2019. “We’ve talked to him,” Haas said. “He brings a different group of sponsors. Like anything else, it comes down to the bottom line. How much sponsorship are we talking? How much money does SHR get? How much money does the driver get? Those are the kind of typical things that can take a while to iron out because everybody wants everything.”
It sounds like they may be discussing those topics now as negotiations have worn on for the past two weeks. Gene said these things take a while to iron out and he’s not wrong. Even though they literally did a deal just like this last year with Aric Almirola.
Suarez meanwhile appears committed to making the #41 seat work for him next season. His name has been linked with Leavine Family Racing for 2019 as they switch to Toyota’s but that door may be closing.
Gene Haas and company appear to be looking for a driver that brings sponsorship. Suarez is that guy and the only guy left on the market that can bring a substantial amount. This deal will likely get done, it makes too much sense not to. On top of that, we’re late into the NASCAR season, teams and sponsors are looking to shore up their budgets for 2019.
