When Lee Spencer mentioned there were rumblings that Joe Gibbs Racing could be a landing spot for Martin Truex Jr. in 2019 many of us scoffed. On Tuesday those rumblings gained a little more traction when Adam Stern tweeted this:
With @FRRacingTeam's talks with @GMSRacingLLC having apparently collapsed, another possible option for @MartinTruex_Jr should FRR not be able to continue is said to be for him to go to @JoeGibbsRacing.

With Furniture Row Racing’s future looking more and more uncertain as the days fly by, Truex could be looking for a new home. That new home apparently could be at Joe Gibbs Racing in the #19. Meaning Daniel Saurez could potentially move to the Leavine Family Racing #95 in 2019. LFR is slated to become a TRD team in 2019 and current driver Kasey Kahne is retiring.
Saurez and his backers likely don’t want to leave JGR. However, it is unclear what Suarez’s contract situation is with the team. If he does go to the #95 though it will likely be a JGR affiliate team much like Furniture Row Racing.
Joe Gibbs potential 2019 lineup is a juggernaut of Yankee proportions. Kyle Busch, Martin Truex Jr, Denny Hamlin and Erik Jones. That’s 100 NASCAR Cup Series wins within one team. That’s the stoutest lineup in NASCAR and with a manufacturer committed to winning. Granted Jimmie Johnson has 83 by himself but that’s beside the point.
If Truex moves to JGR the biggest question is will Cole Pearn move with him? He is arguably the reason the #78 is as good as it is. Pearn has stated in the past he has no desire to live in Charlotte again. Would JGR let him work remotely or would the money bag they set on his lap be enough to convince him?
This will be the biggest story of the year if it happens because that means the 2017 championship team closes its doors 1 year after winning the title.
