Kevin Harvick Wins In Phoenix With A Legal Car & Phoenix Recap

Kevin Harvick won his third race in a row Sunday in Phoenix, this time with a legal Stewart Haas Ford Fusion.

Harvick known for his dominance at Phoenix responded to the critics, Reddit and NASCAR’s rulebook by winning in the desert for the 9th time in his career. Two things to always remember never ever bet against Jimmie Johnson at Dover and never bet against Harvick in the desert. Kevin Harvick has now won 3 out of 4 races to start the season. However, his second win in Las Vegas was disallowed by NASCAR due to his window bracing failing.

Like any old man in a neighborhood with kids, Harvick lashed out at the race track on Friday. He blamed the internet for his penalty when clearly the internet didn’t make the window brace fail. Did the internet bring it to the attention of NASCAR? Maybe. If NASCAR missed the gigantic dent in his roof that says more about how bad they are at spotting things on the track.

On Sunday Harvick won with a legal race car. At least legal in the eyes of that pesky internet and all of the “haters.” The car will be taken back to NASCAR’s R&D Center for a teardown, if anything is illegal it will be announced on Wednesday. Speaking or the “haters” Harvick did this on Sunday after his win;

Hate to be that guy, but he hit the wrong side of the roof. The problem was on the right side, Kev-dawg. He continued his trolling of the “haters” in Victory Lane by saying “this felt more important than Homestead, driving it home for all the supports. All the haters, I see you” as Harvick pointed at the camera and smirked. The #4 driver has gone full heel mode like his boss used to. Except Harvick isn’t talking shit about his competitors, he’s going after the fan base. It’s WWE and Kevin Harvick is, I don’t know a thing about wrestling so pick the hell and that’s Kevin Harvick.

Rest of the field

While Harvick led the final 22 laps on Sunday, Kyle Busch was desperately trying to chase him down. The #18 led 128 laps on Sunday en route to a second-place finish which he was overcome with emotion from. Kidding, he was annoyed and said he’s tired of finishing second. It’s race 4 of the season Kyle, chill out man.

Kyle Larson looked like he would be a threat early in the race leading 54 laps. A mid-race spin would throw off his entire race and result in an 18th place finish. Good news for Kyle has to be the 2 mile Auto Club Speedway that awaits the series this weekend. Kyle Larson has won the last 4 races at 2-mile tracks and is looking to go back to back in Fontana.

Rookie and second coming William Byron led his first laps in the Cup series on Sunday thanks to some pit strategy. 12 laps led would equal his finish of 12th. Hendrick as a whole had a better weekend at Phoenix than the previous two weeks. Chase Elliott came home third, someday he’ll win in Phoenix. Byron, Alex Bowman, and Jimmie Johnson all came home 12th, 13th, and 14th. Not where Hendrick wants to run but a much better performance than the previous two weeks.

All three Penske cars finished 15th or worse. Maybe Brad was right, the Fords are about to take a drubbing…

Short Race

The race was 2 hours and 53 minutes, under 3 hours giving every talking head something to get themselves off to. Moody will do 4 hours on this alone but will need 3 changes of pants. And that was talking race distance.

NASCAR is off to California this weekend where we will undoubtedly be reminded Jimmie Johnson is from El Cajon and Harvick from Bakersfield. Can’t wait.
