Danica Patrick is 8 weeks away from being the unemployed girlfriend of Ricky Stenhouse Jr. With her ride at Stewart Haas Racing likely going to Aric Almirola, where will Danica race in 2018? No one quite knows at the moment, there are rumors, there are things being said but nothing concrete. Danica has said she will only race Cup in 2018. Meaning no return to IndyCar, no quality Xfinity or Truck rides for her. The latter two is where she could really succeed at.
Meaning no return to IndyCar, no quality Xfinity or Truck rides for her. The latter two is where she could really succeed at. A top tier Xfinity or Camping World Truck ride would do wonders for Danica’s confidence. The talent level isn’t as deep in the lower series and that’s likely exactly what Danica needs. A win in the lower level would still solidify as the best woman NASCAR driver in history up to this point. A win likely puts her in the NASCAR Hall of Fame as well.
It’s admirable for her to only want a Cup ride, we all get that. It feels like you failed if you go to a lower series. Is a mediocre Cup ride really better than a top-level Xfinity ride? It’s not but if that’s what Danica is aiming for here are the two most logical spots for her to end up.
Front Row Motorsports
A rumor floating around the internet is Danic to the #38 car replacing David Ragan. Danica would certainly be a marketing upgrade over Ragan. Unfortunately for Dancia, it would not be a top-tier NASCAR ride. Front Row Motorsports has two wins as a company since joining NASCAR. A Talladega win thanks to David Ragan and a committed pusher in David Gilliland. They also captured a win in 2016 with Chris Buescher at Pocono thanks to great strategy and a weather-shortened race.
Danica would be a boost for the team in terms of marketing and sponsorship appeal. Talent wise Ragan is the better driver but the NASCAR landscape in 2017/2018 isn’t about talent. Darrell Wallace Jr. has also been rumored for a ride at Front Row as well.
Front Row Motorsports with a popular driver could attract sponsors that could boost their performance. Every one of these mid-pack teams is looking to be the next Furniture Row Racing darling. A rise to prominence thanks to money, speed, and a quality driver.
Richard Childress Racing
Lee Spencer from Motorsport.com has mentioned Richard Childress Racing as a possible landing spot for Danica’s services. The #27 car currently is without a driver for the 2018 season thanks to Paul Menard’s departure to join the Wood Brothers. Could Danica be the third piece at RCR in 2018?
Her addition would truly solidify RCR as a trifecta of mediocrity. What RCR needs in the #27 is a driver that is hungry and has raw speed. Someone that can boost the performance of the team. Currently, RCR has drifted into a mid-pack team. While the team has two strategy wins this season that isn’t a way to stay competitive over an entire season.
Would Danica be a boost to the team? Likely not. Her addition would join the long list of head scratching RCR addition. Casey Mears, Dave Blaney, Jeff Green, Steve Park, Johnny Sauter, and Robby Gordon. Names in their own right but never guys you would consider for a top-tier NASCAR ride, especially after they had top-tier rides in the past.
No one really knows where Danica will be in 2018, Danica might not even know. One thing we do know is it won’t be anywhere that isn’t the NASCAR Cup Series.
