from my 2018 chart: hearing Kahne could be heading #95 LFR w/alliance from HMS. McDowell could move to FRM in #34 #NASCAR, rumor for now

Kasey Kahne could be headed to the Leavine Family Racing #95 in 2018 with the team forming an alliance with Hendrick Motorsports. Michael McDowell currently drives the #95 can and consistently out runs most RCR cars on a weekly basis. LFR currently has an alliance with RCR and they have reaped the benefits of that partnership. Like everyone though they’re looking to make their way up the grid.
Insert Kasey Kahne
Kahne is under contract with Hendrick Motorsports in 2018, they are paying him next year whether he races or not. Why not have a 5 car team essentially with Kahne in the #95? This makes all the business sense in the world for Hendrick and it makes the same amount of sense for LFR. Kahne is an upgrade over McDowell on essentially every track and the Hendrick equipment is light years ahead of RCR equipment.
Following his Brickyard win, Kahne has certainly appeared much happier at the track. Taking that happiness and drive to LFR in 2018 could reap benefits for both team and driver. LFR needs to align with Hendrick too, if they want to become the next Furniture Row Racing this is the move they have to make. Better chassis, engines, and resources are key to being successful. Currently, LFR looks like Furniture Row circa 2011, they run really well but just aren’t elite yet. They could sneak a win like Regan Smith did but to align themselves with a power team is the key to becoming a cup series stalwart.
What About McDowell?
Rumor has it he will be heading to Front Row Motorsports and the #34. That ride is currently occupied by Landon Cassill, no word on where he could go but losing him would be terrible for the sport. Cassill is the voice of the silent majority of fans in the sport. He’s the Millenial we can all connect to that actually knows whats going on and how to connect with younger fans. Plus we need his quality throwback shirts and 38 nice to live on forever.
The 2018 lineup still has a lot to get through before it’s finalized. These are all rumors but where there’s smoke there is fire. Unless you’re Tom Bowels and try to convince everyone Harvick is going to the #5.
