What Do Darrell Wallace, Richard Petty Motorsports, Chevy And Smithfield All Have In Common?

When the 2018 Daytona 500 rolls off in February the grid is going to new faces in new places. One of those faces could be in an old place well a 4 race old place. Darrell Wallace Jr. is reportedly being considered for the #43 Richard Petty Motorsports ride. He was previously rumored to be a candidate for a second RPM ride. According to Adam Stern from Sports Business Journal indicated today Darrell Wallace could be in line for the #1 ride within the team.

Rumors, Rumors Everywhere

Here is the rumor: Smithfield Foods is interested in staying with Richard Petty Motorsports after having previously been linked to the #10 Stewart Haas Racing car. Aric Almirola has been shopping himself this season and now may not be back with RPM. Darrell Wallace Jr. impressed the hell out of RPM when he subbed for Almirola earlier in the season. He’s now being rumored to take over the #43 in 2018.

Now you’re probably thinking, where does Chevy come into this at? It appears RPM will make the switch to Chevy’s in 2018. Not only make the switch, they will also be merging with Richard Childress Racing. That’s the hot rumor in the garage area right now and we wrote about it (HERE) a couple weeks ago.

At the Daytona 500 in 2018 the #43 car will be a Chevrolet with Darrell Wallace Jr behind the wheel and Smithfield and possibly Domino’s on the car. Silly season is still going and more news is bound to break.

What About Almirola?

No clue in all honesty. At the beginning of the season, he was rumored to be shopping his services and Smithfield’s sponsorship around to teams. The rumor was he was going to end up at RCR but if RPM merges¬†with that team he could now be on the outside looking in. Almirola will have other options though and if he can find sponsorship the #10 Stewart Haas Racing car could be a perfect fit for him.
