Ryan Blaney’s 2018 plans appear to be coming together and headed for an announcement as soon as Wednesday according to Adam Stern from Sports Business Journal. Everything is purely speculation at this point but one thing we do know for certain, Ryan Blaney will be in a cup car in 2018. Breaking information there.
Two options remain for the the future of Ryan Blaney. Now that Alex Bowman has been signed to the #88 the rumors of Blaney’s departure from the Ford camp have quieted. The Wood Brothers would love for Blaney to remain in the famous #21 in 2018 on loan from Team Penske again. However Team Penske may have other plans for Young Ryan Blaney.
The Wood Brothers
Ryan Blaney has resurrected The Wood Brothers following their post 2011 Daytona 500 slide. His win at Pocono was massive for both him and the team from Stuart, Virginia. The Wood Brothers need a young driver like Ryan Blaney, the sport is more fun when the #21 is running up front. Blaney has really gelled with the team and Crew Chief Jeremy Bullins, it’d be a shame to see them not be able to continue building what they have started.
One thing NASCAR needs are young drivers with personalities. Ryan Blaney is a throwback driver in a sport full of corporate molded spokesmen. He wears the old hats and shirts, he has the deep voice, the aviator sunglasses, and the throwback team. He fits so well with The Wood Brothers it’d be a shame to see him leave. The Wood Brothers are just doing things by the seat of their pants, that’s the impression you get even though they have full Team Penske support. Their laid back style combined with Blaney has made them and incredibly likable bunch.
Blaney is under contract with Team Penske and on loan to The Wood Brothers. The hottest rumor on the street is Team Penske will raise the #12 cars from the ashes like a phoenix, or David Stremme. Blaney ran the #12 in a few races during the 2014 season. Roger Penske has said on record that he wants Blaney to be under the Team Penske banner again. It is rumored that Tire Discounters will move from the #22 Xfinity car to the #12 cup car.
Team Penske is a powerhouse, a corporate powerhouse. Blaney doesn’t seem to fit that corporate mold as much as Brad and Joey seem to. He’s young, laid back and parties like Dale Jr. circa 2001, he can’t go to Team Penske for the sake of everyone out there. He’ll be wifed up and have a kid within two years.
Look for an announcement this week. Hopefully Blaney stays at the #21, if not hopefully Darrell Wallace Jr. takes over the #21 in 2018.
