Jayski– Austin Dillon will not face additional penalties today for deliberately wrecking Cole Custer in Saturday’s DC Solar 200 NASCAR XFINITY Series race at Phoenix Raceway.
NASCAR parked Dillon for the remainder of Saturday’s race, but a NASCAR representative confirmed to FOXSports.com that Dillon will not face additional sanctions today.
Last week NASCAR’s Steve O’Donnell and CEO Brian France said they would not tolerate drivers using their cars as weapons to settle grudges. Flash forward a few days and Austin Dillon challenged their statement 5 days later.
Here is what happened, Cole Custer got into turn 1 a little hot, tagged the #2 of Austin Dillon and sent him into the wall. It happens, it’s not like Dillon was racing for Xfinity points so his anger was a bit unfounded. Nevertheless the cowboy with the perfect beard took matters into his own hands and did this;
That was to show Cole Custer he wasn’t happy. Ok fine, but talking to him works too. Not like he meant to do it on purpose and Cole Custer is the second coming of Ryan Newman body wise. Kid is built like Brian Urlacher, short, stocky and impossible to knock over. Like a weeble they wobble but they won’t fall over.
The real question is what is the definition of a weapon. Like everything with NASCAR it depends on the situation. Personally I had no problem with it because it didn’t tear up the #00. Although the #2 didn’t have to do that. It’s not like Austin Dillon is the elder statesman of the garage teaching the young guys. Dude has like 8 wins.
NASCAR said no penalty. They parked him for the final 9 laps so that was enough punishment? They set the standard here though. Just once you’d like to be consistent.
